[NWV_123] OpenStack and Orchestration Essentials *NEW*

Printer-friendly PDF version

Cloud Computing is transforming enterprise. OpenStack is the open source Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solution for building and managing clouds. This course provides a technical introduction to the key concepts and technologies behind OpenStack IaaS solution. We discuss the high level architecture of the OpenStack IaaS and explain the functionality provided by each of the key services such as Glance, Nova, Glance, Neutron, Cinder and Swift. Along the way, each student will design and build a Virtual Network using OpenStack. The course will enable the understanding the value of orchestration in a virtualized network and its possible application in a virtualized network architecture.

Learning Objectives

After completing this course, the student will be able to:
• Discuss the market drivers behind the move toward network virtualization, virtualization concepts, and orchestration
• Discuss the value of cloud IaaS and orchestration
• Discuss the capabilities and limitations of an OpenStack IaaS
• List the basic OpenStack services and identify their roles
• Sketch OpenStack’s Logical and Physical architectures.
• List capabilities of role-based authentication and control for OpenStack user management
• Show a virtual machine lifecycle management process in OpenStack IaaS
• Discuss how orchestration is applied at different layers of virtualized network architecture
• List key deployment considerations

Intended Audience

This course is designed for those in the technical/project/program management roles who need to develop good conceptual understanding of OpenStack and orchestration.
